Get off the metro at Mundet, walk past the Velodrome and the oversized broken letters on the grassy slope and go into the Parc del Laberint. Head immediately away from said labyrinth, exposed and baking in the hot sun, and off to the left you’ll find a wonderland in a slight depression. The first sign that something is very different from the outside is the running water- a creek. The temperature in the little hollow is significantly cooler than, um, anywhere else in the city (not including artificial environments). A high canopy of trees shades the luscious flora, small ponds, water lilies and the like. This is not a Mediterranean climate. You could be in the English countryside or Bretagne or A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s a strange feeling, and so enjoyable. Take as long as possible to meander through this bower searching for fairies and listening to the trickling-water soundtrack.
